Why Côte d'Ivoire is ready for digital

M. Akanzore · May 10, 2026 · 1 min read

We get asked often: "why now?" The answer is three curves that crossed in 18 months.

1. 4G coverage

ARTCI just released the latest numbers: 91% of the territory covered, 78% of the population with a smartphone capable of running a modern web app. That's three times the 2018 figure.

2. Mobile money

Orange Money and MTN MoMo have become the default, not the option. 67% of B2C transactions now move through mobile. Two reasons that matters:

  • The APIs are stable. We can build on them without bracing for a breaking change in 6 months.
  • Users are comfortable. No one needs to be taught how to scan a QR code or confirm a payment anymore.

3. Operational maturity

The hardest to measure, but the most decisive. Business teams now understand a digital project requires internal decisions — on processes, roles, data. No one asks anymore "can you just build the site and we'll send the content later?" That's what changes everything.

What it means for you

If you've been waiting for "the right moment," it has arrived. The risk now is no longer leaving too early — it's leaving while your competitors are already in the field.
